Summary
A Bill presented by Richard Ottaway MP to amend the law relating to scrap metal dealers.
In the last parliamentary session, the government announced plans to tackle scrap metal dealers by introducing new legislation to curb this practise, as part of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act. In addition, Lord Faulkner of Worcester tabled a Lords' Private Members' Bill to increase the maximum penalties to punish unlicensed scrap dealers. However, the Bill was unable to pass through parliament before prorogation and subsequently made no further progress.
