Summary

A Bill presented by Caroline Lucas MP to require local authorities to operate landlord accreditation schemes.

The Bill would require councils to operate a strict set of standards that private landlords would need to adhere to, in order to be considered acceptable landlords.  According to Shelter, nearly sixty per cent of councils operate a landlord accreditation scheme however many private landlords are accredited for providing the minimum in service and household maintenance.

The Bill failed to complete its passage through Parliament before the end of the session. Therefore, the Bill will make no further progress.
